Greetings, I have a GT70 that I had to send back for service. Turns out the graphics card went bad (nVidia gtx675m). That was replaced and upgraded to a gtx870m.

Also, something happened to the HDD so that was replaced as well. The OS had to be reinstalled at the service center which was fine. Now here is where I will explain the problem. After getting my laptop back I started re-installing different things, mainly virus/malware protection, and a few driver updates etc. During the first reboot it took about 25 minutes. Then I recalled the problem of all the language packs being installed, and the problem of pc's hanging up at 100% complete.

I found the post explaining how to delete the packs that I do not want and proceeded to delete them. This to some time to complete (several hours). Upon reboot the system hung at 100%. I just left it for about 2 hours. Finally, I shut it off. I waited a few minutes and restarted.

It happened again and again I left the laptop on for about an hour. I tried one last time with no success. At this point I decided to try a factory reset since I could not get past the update screen. The restore failed giving me an error message that read that one of the files needed was missing or corrupt. Anyway, I ended up buying a copy of Windows 8.1. Install went fine. Now my question is this.

Is there anywhere I can download the MSI Burn Recovery tool? I've grabbed all the drivers/updates needed from the download page, but I cannot find this one. Am I just not seeing it? Edit: No I did not do a burn recovery prior to the above, and I cannot find my original discs I made when I bought the pc last year. Thanks for the reply hch, but I need to add a little more info that I should have mentioned in my original post.

See the restore partition is still there, I didn't delete it. I can open the system manager and see it. Now, is it possible to pull that info off that partition? Even if I have to use other burning software, it doesn't matter to me. But I'm guessing that partition is proprietary. Still, I'd like to be able to get it. Otherwise, I'm going to delete that partition.

It's not a huge amount of space, 15gb. The partition is only for the MSI burnrecovery tool or the F3 recovery function, but since you've wiped the system drive, there is no other way to create the recovery disk by using the hidden partition. I've noticed that the GT70 model with gtx675m graphics you have is a different model from the GT70 with gtx870m graphics and that's not a good thing to do. Other than you won't have proper drivers or BIOS/EC to update in the future, the GT70 0ND model should not be able to handle the 870M graphics by using its thermal module nor the power, and this upgrade is likely to have some damage or unknown issues if you start using it. I'll suggest you contact with the service center and make sure with them about the situation.Where is the service center you send for the repair?

It was serviced at the facility in California. The laptop is running better than it ever has. I do play Eve Online and with the graphics pretty much maxed it runs with no issues. Temps typically running between 60-75c.

As to why they replaced the 675 with the 870, I really do not know but I will inquire. I still have several months left on my warranty and I do not want that to be compromised. None the less, the laptop is performing quite nicely. As to the bios and other firmware updates I have been fortunate in not having to do that. And I guess since I cannot gain access to the recovery partition I will reclaim that space. There is no reason to update any EC or Bios Firmware as long as the Laptop is functioning fine. So you don't need to worry about that.

The laptop itself shares the same chassis as any other GT70 model so no issues there either. The only downside to it is the slower CPU, but all GT70 models pretty much have replaceable MXM boards for graphics. All you need to make sure of is that you have an adequate power supply to it.

As for drivers, As long as you use Nvidia Drivers through the Nvidia Geforce Experience(or download manually) you will be fine. Considering there is no difference other then a weaker CPU and Different videocard.

As for your issue, Considering you purchased your own Windows 8.1 software, I would simply recommend that to reinstall. In the case you wish to make a Recovery Image(to burn on a DVD), You could simply use a third party software or make your own through windows after a complete fresh installation.
